We Advised on a Major Hospital Merger in the Liberec Region
As of 1 January 2026, the Regional Hospital Liberec and the Hospital with Polyclinic Česká Lípa officially merged. The newly combined institution now employs 4,670 people and operates 1,610 beds, placing it among the country’s top ten largest hospitals.
The merger is part of a long-term effort to streamline and strengthen the healthcare system in the Liberec Region. Its goal is not only to preserve a high standard of medical care, but also to enhance its accessibility across the region. The Regional Hospital Liberec builds on its previous successful integrations of hospitals in Turnov (2014) and Frýdlant (2018).
Comprehensive Legal Leadership
CLA Czech Republic acted as the lead legal advisor on the transaction, providing full legal management of the project. Over eight months, starting in June 2025, a dedicated six-member team worked intensively on all aspects of the merger. We structured the overall process, prepared the complete documentation, and represented the clients in all approval proceedings.
The merger of two major healthcare institutions is an exceptionally complex undertaking. It requires careful coordination of ongoing medical operations, sensitive alignment of relationships between public entities, and strict oversight of public funds.
“A merger of this scale is far more than a technical legal exercise. It is a strategic step that directly impacts healthcare accessibility throughout the region. Our role was to ensure that the entire process was legally sound, while fully respecting the specific nature of public healthcare and the responsible management of public resources,”
says Robert Musil, Partner at CLA Law, who led the project. A key role in the project was played by Darek Doležal, with further contributions from Jitka Motlová (finance), Miloslav Mahdík, Jakub Matějček and Václav Kunášek (valuation experts).
CLA Czech Republic has long been active in the healthcare and hospital sector. By combining legal, audit and valuation expertise, we are able to deliver fully integrated advisory services and effectively manage large-scale, regulation-intensive projects.
This transaction once again demonstrates our capability to lead complex public sector projects and provide clients with comprehensive, coordinated support.
